Corey took a deep breath as the night started to break away. He stood outside of Leo’s tent fortress. He didn’t know what he was going to say to Leo, but he knew he was going to need help. Leo tried helping him and at every turn, Corey refused it.
“I know you’re there!” Leo shouted from outside inside of the tent. “Might as well come in.”
Corey stepped through and was met by Leo. He stood there with his arms crossed. His eyes focused only on Corey. Corey felt uneasy and started to back up. Then he stopped. Thought about the promise he made to his parents. To himself. He took a step forward.
“I’m sorry,” Corey mumbled.
“Say again?” Leo responded.
“I’m sorry. It’s my fault that April was kidnapped. I’m sorry for failing. I’ m sorry for not trusting you.”
“Stop it!” Leo yelled. “Nobody blames you. All I wanted from you was to take responsibility. This isn’t your fault, you didn’t know they would come and kidnap you. You can’t control what happens, but you can control what will happen.. So what are you going to do?”
Corey looked down at the ground and thought about April. They didn’t have enough time to really care about each other, but she did trust him. Even when Corey was fighting for the wrong reasons, she still tried to help him. She trusted him. Like how people trusted his father. How he trusted his father.
“I want to save April.”
“Then, save her.” Leo grabbed the costume and watched..
“And it can be fixed.”
“We don’t have time.”
“And you can’t afford to take the Wolves on without the powers of the lion.”
Corey took the watch and costume. “If they hurt her, it’s my fault.”
“And blaming yourself will not help either. So, again, what are you going to do?”
Corey put the watch on. “Hey, do I need the costume for the watch to work?
“No, but Corey, the suit offers protection.”
“I get that, but we don’t have time. Can you pass me the Puma one?
Leo brought over the yellow watch.
“What are you thinking?”
“I’m thinking I can get April to help me. I’m going to need it.” Corey fumbled through his bag and pulled out his chemo kit. “And I’m going to need some vials. Time to make some smoke bombs and firecrackers.”
“Ah, I see. You’re finally using your brains and not your brawn.”
“Yeah, my dad taught me every combustion known to man. Since they outnumber me, I’m going to need a neutralizer. Then I can get the Puma watch for April and together we can finish them off.
Corey kept mixing the chemicals together inside vials. Packe them into makeshift pockets on a belt.
“What is your plan?”
“Well, since you can’t help me physically, I figure You can cause a distraction. I will then apply the smoke bombs, which should choke them. Long enough for me to get the bracelet to kApril. I can then use the rest of my vials to take on King. . After the smoke clears, you call the cops.”
“Your dad would want you to wait on backup.”
“My dad isn’t here and I have to do things my way. All that matters is saving April.”
